Haven’t you Heard? I’m Sakamoto – Review

Haven't You Heard I'm Sakamoto

Well, that was an… interesting show. It was full of ridiculous moment’s that if you’re all for the inane, you’ll find yourself laughing at each episode. If on the other hand you can’t stand the inane then there’s a good chance you won’t be too amused. Haven’t you Heard? I’m Sakamoto is one of those shows where you just REALLY have to rely on your suspension of disbelief. As there is no explanation as to how Sakamoto accomplishes the things he does, such as running on walls, fooling people with hand drawn watches, and flying with an umbrella, à la Mary Poppins.

Sakamoto comes from a middle school people haven’t heard about that is suspiciously named “Innocence.” Now if you were to describe Sakamoto with one word (that isn’t cool), innocent would be a pretty good fit. Nothing he does is out of ill will, and when confronted by others he solves the conflict in a pure fashion. Sakamoto is kind to animals, and is considerate of others, even those who mean to do him harm. You could argue Sakamoto acts the way he does for the attention, but throughout the series that never seems to truly be the case. For most of these stories he’s the center of attention. Sure. But not because he want’s to be, but rather because he’s targeted for one reason or another, or get’s dragged along into something, due to his agreeable attitude. Sakamoto, under the guise of “cool” is a pure character, whose only fault would be that he can be rather dense at times, due to his innocence.

SakamotoWith that said, Haven’t you Heard? I’m Sakamoto still remains ridiculous in it’s entirety, after all Sakamoto still accomplishes impossible acts. If there’s any reason anyone would dislike this anime, it would be the ridiculousness portrayed within it. The second would be a disliking of the title character in all his purity. After all it’s hard to relate to a character that’s shown as perfect, and easy to get bored with a predictable character. Keep in mind though, while the destination is predictable, the journey is anything but.

Haven’t you Heard? I’m Sakamoto was pure and funny, the delivery of it’s stories were good enough that it left me with a smile after every episode. If smiling contently is the end result of watching an episode, then clearly Haven’t you Heard? I’m Sakamoto is doing something right. Definitely a stand out from the rest of the shows this season with it’s “overwhelmingly cool” character, with questionable origins. While I loved it, it’s not for everyone, even so I implore you to give it a shot.
