From Fate/Grand Order we have a 1/7 scale figure of Sakura Saber, or Okita Souji if you will. With that said, I have not a clue about the Fate series outside of the anime Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. Basically, I saw Saber in modified Shinsengumi attire and hit “buy” because… well, I love the Shinsengumi Haori.
So right out of the box, and I spot some QC issues… on the haori. The part that screamed “buy me” the loudest. If there’s going to be QC issues, OF COURSE it’s gotta be there, why would it not be? The worst part is that it isn’t just one paint smudge, but several around a mild portion of her left sleeve. Sure, it isn’t noticeable from afar, but… well it’s there. Don’t know what happened, but I got dealt a bad hand this time around. I’ll live.
With that said, here’s her arm, hands, and hilt. I really enjoy her fingernails as they do a really good job at looking like fingernails, not that other figures don’t do a good job. As far as my collection goes, this Saber has the best fingernails. They feel different, and have a slight shine to them.
Legs are legs. Toe nails received the same treatment as fingernails, unsurprisingly. Boring base is boring. In fact this is the first scale figure I have bought that has a plain black base, and it is simply underwhelming and boring. Maybe this is a nit pick complaint, or just a matter of preference.
Her back, ribbons, sash, and all. Although I am curious as to why there’s a metal ring coming out from the inside of the Haori, with the white string attached to it. That white sting, upon inspection serves no purpose on the clothes… I guess what it all comes down to is character design and aesthetics. Speaking of aesthetics… Scarfs are always great. Well, usually great. Point is, Sabers scarf here is great. Great? Great. So much use of the word “great” it must be grating.
As you may have noticed, I don’t have much to say about Saber here. It’s not that I dislike the figure, or character. Rather I don’t know the character, or even the original art for her. Besides the QC issues I pointed out at first, and the boring base, the figure is just fine. But I have to say, now that I own a Saber figure, I can say that I now totally understand why she’s so popular. It’s because… Yeah, actually still no clue. Her character in the Fate/Zero and Unlimited Blade Works, didn’t seem to special, and while her character design is fine, it’s also nothing to special. Maybe she’s just some sort of ideal? I don’t know. What I do know now is that all the Saber fans are gonna hate on me, so with that said… See you next time.
